Lisboa Card and reservations: where you still need a time slot
·
For Jerónimos, Torre de Belém and the interior of the Palácio da Pena you book a date and time in advance, even with the Lisboa Card. At two Sintra palaces you only choose a date when buying online. An overview of the key rules.
What does a time-slot reservation mean?
With a time-slot reservation you book a fixed day and a fixed entry time in advance. The Lisboa Card does not replace this booking.
Which attractions need a reservation despite the Lisboa Card?
| Attraction | Reservation |
|---|---|
| Mosteiro dos Jerónimos | Required: date and time, even with the card |
| Torre de Belém | Required: date and time, even with the card |
| Parque e Palácio Nacional da Pena | Required: date and time for the palace, no tolerance if you are late |
| Palácio Nacional de Sintra | Date when buying online, no time |
| Palácio Nacional de Queluz | Date when buying online |
| Palácio Nacional da Ajuda | Only groups of more than 20 people |
| Palácio Nacional de Mafra | Only groups of more than 50 people |
| Castelo de São Jorge | None, ticket online or at the ticket office |
| Museu da Água, Galeria do Loreto | Only as a guided tour |
| Padrão dos Descobrimentos | Not stated, the film only runs at fixed times |
For the other attractions, their websites do not mention a requirement. The full list with sources is on the Lisboa Card attractions page.
Is admission free with the card at these attractions?
Not everywhere. Jerónimos, Torre de Belém and the Castelo de São Jorge are free with the Lisboa Card. The three palaces run by Parques de Sintra are not: according to our price database there is only a discount (as of 23 Sep 2026):
- Palácio Nacional da Pena: 10% discount, €18.00 instead of €20.00
- Palácio Nacional de Sintra: 10% discount, €11.70 instead of €13.00
- Palácio Nacional de Queluz: 10% discount, €11.70 instead of €13.00
How do you plan the card around the time slots?
The card runs in hours from its first use. If the only free time slot in Belém falls on the wrong day, the whole calculation shifts. Here is how to go about it:
- Step 1: Book the time slots for Jerónimos, Torre de Belém and the Palácio da Pena.
- Step 2: Fit the card's validity around these days.
- Step 3: Use the Lisboa Card calculator to check whether 24, 48 or 72 hours are enough for your selection. What a day in Belém costs with individual tickets is covered in Belém in one day.
